Aug 25, 2014 · Polyurethane vs Acrylic. Water based polyurethanes are a tougher sealer than acrylics and are more UV resistant and chemically resistant. They don’t yellow, perform better outside and they are more resistant to chemicals oil, brake fluid, and chlorine. The best water based polyurethanes are 2- parts (Part A and B requiring mixing). Semi-gloss is the hardest of interior paint finishes and utilizing a good quality semi-gloss like Behr will be a harder film than the Polycrylic. With this in mind, if you made a mistake like using a flat paint in the first place, the Polycrylic is a great solution to offer some washability and durability to that existing paint film.
